Sky 128 - brooding

Two skies from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. All of the skies are broody-moody. There are a lot of unknowns and the dark skies make it all a bit scary (or scarier).
The first (dis)apparition (teleport) after Ron leaves the group.

A mildly brighter sky after Ron's return as they set off to visit Xenophilius.
All of the skies are artistically lovely, starting right at the beginning with variations on city night skies.

Sky 127 - not new moon

Still trying to get a new moon in Bryce. Gonna have to fake it.

Sky 126 - statue on beach

This is a rough first draft. There's a statue of Neptune in Virginia Beach. What they really need in that area is a statue of a faithful woman waiting for her ship to come in.

365: Sky 125 - birds and wires

I'm going to have to start carrying a camera around. I wanted this for the birds. I'm sure a real camera would have helped. Another improvement would have been to get out of the car.

365: Sky 122 - sky hand

The texture import from DAZ 3D to Bryce didn't work so good. She would look better as a statue because then the hair would make sense.

365: sky 120 - overheated

It is now 83 degrees inside. This is yesterday evening's sky when it was around 100 degrees outside with 55% humidity. Hot enough for anyone. Not hot enough to kill bugs yet, though. That happens in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia when the temperature gets to about 115 degrees. That is a dry heat, thank goodness. Otherwise it might kill camels, too.

365: Sky 119 - snowy night

Keeping cool in this horrid, wretched humid heat.
Enjoying the Photoshop snow plug-in.

365: Sky 114 - Bryce's perfect sky

If this looks a little vague to you, that's because there's no ground plane. Thought I'd focus on the sky.

365: Sky 108 - plastic sky

Today's sky is from Sal Federico, who was my Art Foundation instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University many years ago. Sal was all about plastic space, an esoteric concept which is either dying in obscurity or thriving secretly in the hearts of artists everywhere. It's a concept I liked. I've used it all of my professional life. So, I will try to make what I see apparent to you.

Although Sal's works look abstract (and, well, they are – on one level) they are also representational. When I look at his work I see the sky between sky-scraping buildings as seen when looking straight up.

I'm not sure if it's okay to post an image, so follow this link to the piece that is perhaps the easiest to interpret. While you're there, look through his entire portfolio.

Here's a photo of the sort of view I'm describing. Maybe it will help.

365: Sky 106 - through the car window

Before you get all crazy, I was parked outside of the grocery store. Parked, with the engine off, etc.
Through the windshield.

365: Sky 103 - fire in the sky

Not the sort of fire in the skies yesterday. Still, it is a fire. Red sky at dawning ... or is it night? Which do you prefer, warning or delight?

365: Sky 102 - blue moon

Probably oughta be red, white and blue moon. Just be glad it's here at all.

365: Sky 101 - strange mood

101 skies! OMG!
It takes 21 days to start a new habit. I've been posting skies for 101 days (approximately - with one day off for good behaviour). Since the goal was to make something everyday, I needed a project I could manage to complete daily. Posting skies is not as transformative as the Words & Art Archive project. I could probably manage Words & Art once a week.

Culling from my archives was like an earthquake in my life. My life does need an earthquake, yet I am notoriously bad at generating my own earthquakes. I prefer to have them made for me. I do respond well.

Anyway, here's to today!

365: Sky 100 - portrait of a cloud

The sky this morning was amazing. I sat and watched it for about five minutes. This was not it. This is the sky a couple of days ago. I just didn't feel like making a photo this morning. Dunno. I have moments like that. One of my cousins says some moments are too sacred for photography. I agree. This morning was not one of those moments. I suspect it has more to do with privacy. Sometimes I just don't feel like sharing. Actually, most of the time I don't feel like sharing. This is what makes being an artist and writer a random problem. Creating is not the problem. Sharing is.

365: Sky 99 - basic sky

This is the default Bryce sky with untextured mountains and a lot of haze and a cloud plane where it shouldn't be.
